Hi, everyone! It’s Noelia here.
Thanks for joining me for this week’s Listening Challenge. Just like Rajio Eikaiwa’s segment, this version is designed to sharpen your ears and help you catch those natural English nuances. We’ve gathered all four dialogues into one review, so feel free to listen straight through or at your own pace.

All right, let’s dive in. Let’s begin with Monday’s dialogue. Here’s the question.

What is Chloe uneasy about?
What is Chloe uneasy about?

A. Ethan being upset with the staff.
B. The lobby seeming unusually calm and orderly.
C. Being held up again at the entrance.

Listen carefully

Chloe: Just got off the subway. Heading toward your building now—wow, it’s… bigger than I pictured.
Ethan: Yeah, people say that. Security’s in full “event mode” today, so don’t let the vibe throw you.
Chloe: I’ll keep that in mind. Last time I visited a place like this, the lobby held me hostage for ages.
Ethan: Oh, right. Got it. When you get to the gate, just let the staff know you’re meeting me. I’ll let them know ahead of time so they can let you through. If they still won’t let you in, let me know and I’ll come get you.
Chloe: Thanks. That takes the edge off.
Ethan: Once you’re up here, I’ll grab you a coffee before we start. Quick reset.
Chloe: Sounds good. I’m almost there. Talk soon.

All right, let’s go over the question again.
What is Chloe uneasy about?
A. Ethan being upset with the staff.
B. The lobby seeming unusually calm and orderly.
C. Being held up again at the entrance.

C. Being held up again at the entrance.

Chloe mentions that the lobby “held me hostage for ages” last time. That figurative expression signals a strong memory of waiting far too long, which explains her worry. If you caught that emotional nuance, that’s excellent listening.

LC 157|permit, allow

Now, let’s move on to Tuesday’s dialogue. Here’s the question.

Which of the following is true?
Which of the following is true?

A. The staff says rising humidity helps the marble.
B. The man says the courtyard is too crowded to go out.
C. A visitor says calm surroundings help people look around.

Listen carefully.

Evan: I didn’t expect this gallery to allow people to get so close to the marble pieces. They almost feel alive.
Ruby: Yeah, and the quiet here really permits you to take your time. It’s nicer than the main hall.
Lena: Sir? Excuse me—drinks aren’t permitted in this section of the museum. You’re only allowed to have beverages in the lobby or out in the courtyard. If you’d like, I can show you the way.
Evan: Oh—sorry. I wasn’t even thinking.
Ruby: Yeah, he grabbed that iced tea on the way in. We thought sealed cups were allowed.
Lena: They are in some areas, just not near these pieces. The humidity can be an issue.
Evan: Got it. I’ll take it outside. Thanks for letting me know.
Lena: No worries at all. Enjoy the exhibit.

Let’s check that question again.
Which of the following is true?
A. The staff says rising humidity helps the marble.
B. The man says the courtyard is too crowded to go out.
C. A visitor says calm surroundings help people look around.

The answer is—

C. A visitor says calm surroundings help people look around.

Ruby says the quiet atmosphere “permits you to take your time,” which naturally implies better focus. That kind of environmental detail is subtle but meaningful—great job if you caught it.

LC 158|respect, worship, admire, look up to

Next up is Wednesday’s dialogue. Here’s the question.

What does Sophie suggest might be happening with Todd?
What does Sophie suggest might be happening with Todd?

A. He’s keeping pace easily but pretending to be swamped.
B. He’s quietly supporting the team in ways people don’t notice.
C. He’s making noise so others will step up.

Listen carefully.

Logan: I heard Todd mixed up the timelines again this morning. He’s a good guy, but man… he really struggles with the basics sometimes.
Sophie: Maybe, but he’s been covering two people’s workload lately. That would throw anyone off.
Logan: I get that, but still—he always looks swamped, like he can’t quite keep pace with everyone else.
Sophie: Or maybe he’s just trying to keep things running without making noise about it. People like him usually get overlooked.
Logan: Huh… you think I’m being unfair?
Sophie: Not unfair—just that it’s easy to misread things when we don’t see the whole picture.
Logan: I’m not looking down on Todd in the slightest. His work isn’t flawless, sure, but I really admire how committed he is. He actually follows through on everything he starts, and that’s something I genuinely respect about him.
Sophie: Yeah… maybe so.

Let’s go over that question again.
What does Sophie suggest might be happening with Todd?
A. He’s keeping pace easily but pretending to be swamped.
B. He’s quietly supporting the team in ways people don’t notice.
C. He’s making noise so others will step up.

B. He’s quietly supporting the team in ways people don’t notice.

Sophie points out that people like Todd “usually get overlooked,” hinting at quiet dedication. This requires reading between the lines—great listening if you sensed that deeper nuance.

And finally, let’s move on to Thursday’s dialogue. Here’s the question.

What was Sara close to finishing?
What was Sara close to finishing?

A. Reviewing the inventory.
B. Adjusting the budget numbers.
C. Updating the vendor info.

Listen carefully.

Liam: I’m trying to get through this backlog, but new tasks keep popping up as soon as I finish one.
Sara: Tell me about it. I just got two requests I didn’t even know existed an hour ago.
Liam: Did you ever get around to updating the vendor list?
Sara: Almost. I’m close to getting it finalized.
Liam: Great. Once that’s done, what’s left on our plate?
Sara: Let me think… the inventory check, the budget tweak, and—hmm—what else are we forgetting?
Liam: I’ll get a list together of the things we still have to take care of. If you can get everything wrapped up by tonight, I’ll take you out to your favorite restaurant — and I’ll get the check, too.
Sara: …Deal. That’s exactly the kind of motivation I needed.

Let’s check that one again.
What was Sara close to finishing?
A. Reviewing the inventory.
B. Adjusting the budget numbers.
C. Updating the vendor info.

The answer is—

C. Updating the vendor info.

Sara says she’s “close to getting it finalized,” clearly referring to the vendor list. That expression is common in office English and shows she’s almost done—nice catch if you noticed that connection.

And that’s a wrap for this week’s Listening Challenge! Thanks for sticking with the dialogues and keeping your ears sharp. Each conversation gives you clues about tone, intent, and natural English rhythm—skills that build with every listen. Be proud of the progress you made this week. Let’s keep the momentum going and meet again in the next challenge.

This is Noelia, signing off—great work, and see you next time!
