Doug: Whoa, what a surprise!

Shiho: What happened, Doug?

Doug: I just got an email from my cousin Maya.

Shiho: Maya?

Doug: She lives in Portland, Oregon.

Shiho: Oh, what did she say?

Doug: She wants to come to Japan and visit us this summer.

Shiho: Sure, why not? We have lots of room in our house.

Doug: Maya is very friendly and talks a lot. She speaks a little Japanese.

Shiho: That’s great. I’m looking forward to having more guests here.

Dad: Where’s Roxy today?

Mom: She left early this morning to go to her part-time job.

Dad: She’s working on a Saturday morning?

Mom: She works at a hotel. They especially need her on weekends.

Dad: Waking up early on a Saturday is tough. She’s a fighter, all right.

Mom: That she is. I wonder where she gets that from.

Dad: Not from me. I’m a slacker.

Mom: Yeah, you are. So that means she gets it from me.

Dad: I’d say so.

Yayoi: Jonas, are you OK? You don’t look so well.

Jonas: I think I caught something. I’m going to take the afternoon off.

Yayoi: But we have two meetings this afternoon.

Jonas: I know. Are they important?

Yayoi: The meeting from 4 p.m. is very important.

Jonas: Well, unfortunately, I’ll have to catch up later. OK, I’m going. Wait, where’s my phone?

Yayoi: The phone behind your computer is yours, right?

Jonas: Oh, yeah, thanks. See you later, Yayoi.

Yayoi: Take care, Jonas.

Tyler: Carolyn, thanks for taking the day off to show me around.

Carolyn: My pleasure, Tyler. I needed a break anyway.

Tyler: You work so hard at your ramen shop every day.

Carolyn: Well, that’s the price you pay for success. OK, let’s get on the train.

Tyler: It’s not so crowded now. Oh, I like these unusual ads. What does this one say?

Carolyn: That ad says, “Don’t walk while looking at your phone.”

Tyler: Does that happen a lot here, too?

Carolyn: Yes, it does, unfortunately.
